A goodsystem administrator carefully balances the politics of useradministration with the technical aspects of UNIX hardware and software,and uses trouble-shooting techniques based on experience, intuition andcleverness. This course provides understanding of fundamental technicalconcepts supplemented with guidelines to smooth political rough spots.You should have a basic knowledge of UNIX from a user's point of view,including familiarity with the file system, processes, a text editor, andbasic commands. The administration of an isolated workstation and theadministration of a nation-wide network are vastly different. Thiscourse targets the middle ground, a local area network of a few toseveral hundred machines primarily located at one site.
